PHCC Toolkit: FDA Approval
The Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines both have full FDA approval. Communicating about full FDA approval is an opportunity for public health experts and state, local and federal officials to further emphasize the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines. FDA approval requires a rigorous and structured review process, and it means that a vaccine or drug has cleared every level of review. On top of the rigorous testing and review that was required for emergency use authorization (EUA), for FDA approval the FDA requires even more data on safety, manufacturing, and effectiveness over longer periods of time and includes real-world data.
