New Study of New Poison Control Data Source Published

A summary of 156,202 unintentional poison exposure cases from 2020 from a new poison control data source was published in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine (AJEM) on February 7, 2022. The open-access article characterizes for the first time a full year’s summary of cases managed by webPOISONCONTROL®, the first fully automated online poison exposure triage app and highlights its potential for real-time monitoring of unintentional poisoning cases. More than half of the cases in the study occurred in children younger than four years. Increases in exposures to hand sanitizers and cleaners were observed during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, illustrating the public health surveillance and hazard detection capabilities of webPOISONCONTROL data.
