A Global Milestone: Why a World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day Matters

The World Health Organization (WHO) launched a global strategy in 2020 to eliminate cervical cancer, setting ambitious 2030 targets for HPV vaccination, screening, and treatment. This landmark initiative recognizes cervical cancer as one of the few cancers that can be eliminated through proven public health tools.

Despite progress, barriers persist—especially for underserved populations. Now, a growing coalition of WHO member states is urging the World Health Assembly to designate November 17 as World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day. This recognition would elevate political commitment, strengthen advocacy, and reinforce the urgent need to prioritize equitable prevention, screening, and care to save lives globally.
