HPV Vaccine Credited for Declining Cervical Precancer Rates

New data from the CDC shows a significant decline in cervical precancer rates among young women, attributed to the HPV vaccine. From 2008 to 2022, the incidence of precancerous lesions in women aged 20-24 dropped by about 80%, with similar reductions seen in women aged 25-29.

The HPV vaccine, introduced in 2006, has played a key role in this trend, alongside improved screening efforts. The CDC reinforces its recommendation to vaccinate children at ages 11-12 to prevent cancer-causing strains of the virus. These findings highlight the HPV vaccine’s effectiveness in reducing cervical cancer risks and supporting broader public health vaccination efforts. Read more from The Hill here.
