CDC Confirms Third Human Case of H5 Bird Flu in California
The CDC has confirmed a third human case of H5 bird flu in California, linked to occupational exposure to infected dairy cows. This follows two other recent cases among dairy workers from different farms, suggesting animal-to-human transmission. All three individuals experienced mild symptoms, such as conjunctivitis, and none were hospitalized.
While 18 human cases of H5 bird flu have been reported in the U.S. since 2022, CDC maintains that the public health risk remains low. The CDC emphasizes the need for precautions among those exposed to infected animals, especially in environments contaminated by infected livestock, to prevent further transmission.
