CDC Reports Fourth Human Case of H5 Bird Flu Tied to Dairy Cow Outbreak

The CDC has reported a fourth human case of H5 bird flu in the U.S., linked to an outbreak in dairy cows, marking the first such case in Colorado. The infected individual, a dairy farm worker, exhibited only eye symptoms, received oseltamivir, and has recovered. Previous cases were in Texas and Michigan.

Despite the infection, the CDC assesses the risk to the general public as low but emphasizes precautions for those exposed to infected animals. The CDC continues enhanced surveillance, preparedness calls, PPE supplies, and outreach to farmworkers. Recommendations include avoiding unprotected exposure to sick or dead animals and following updated safety protocols. Read more from the CDC here.
