CDC Confirms Second Human H5 Bird Flu Case in Michigan
The CDC has confirmed a second human case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5) virus infection in Michigan, linked to an ongoing outbreak in U.S. dairy cows. This marks the third case associated with the outbreak, all involving dairy farm workers exposed to infected cows. The latest case exhibits typical symptoms of acute respiratory illness.
Despite this, there's been no unusual influenza activity among the general public. The CDC is intensifying surveillance efforts, focusing on those in contact with infected animals and enhancing testing and monitoring measures, especially with the approaching agricultural fair season. This strategy aims to detect and contain potential spread of the virus among humans, maintaining public health vigilance.
