As tick season gains momentum, precautions are vital before outdoor activities. With nearly 50 tick species in the U.S., some transmit diseases, notably Lyme disease. Reported cases surged to 62,551 in 2022, doubling the previous decade's average, attributed partly to improved reporting and expanding tick populations due to climate change. The CDC projects further increases.

 

Although Lyme disease is prevalent, the risk varies by region, averaging 1-3% in high-risk areas. Revised reporting guidelines aim to streamline processes in affected states.
