Study: Rising Inactivity Levels Threaten Global Health Goals

A recent study in The Lancet highlights a growing global public health concern: insufficient physical activity, which elevates the risk of various non-communicable diseases and mental health issues. Analyzing data from 507 surveys across 163 countries, researchers found that the prevalence of insufficient physical activity among adults increased from 23.4% in 2000 to 31.3% in 2022.

Women and individuals aged 60 and older showed higher rates of inactivity. The study indicates that if current trends continue, the global target of a 15% reduction in insufficient physical activity by 2030 will not be met, although regions like Oceania and sub-Saharan Africa show some potential for improvement.
