Yellow Fever Outbreak Alert Issued for the Americas

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and World Health Organization (WHO) have issued an urgent alert regarding a surge in yellow fever cases across the Americas. From January to February 2025, 17 confirmed cases, seven of which were fatal, were reported in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. Additional cases have been identified in Guyana.

The outbreak is projected to affect countries like Argentina and Paraguay. PAHO/WHO emphasize the critical need for 95% vaccination coverage in at-risk populations and call for enhanced traveler awareness. International travelers to South America in 2025 are urged to get vaccinated and carry proof of vaccination, as some countries may require it. Read more here.
