New Lab Tests Reveal McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish Boxes Contain Banned Chemicals

Lab tests commissioned by an advocacy group revealed that McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish packaging contains six phthalates banned by the FDA in 2022 for food contact. Phthalates, used to make plastics more flexible, can migrate into food and have been linked to significant health risks, including impaired male reproductive development, neurodevelopmental issues, and cardiovascular disease.

Despite evidence connecting these chemicals to adverse health outcomes, McDonald’s has yet to comment. This finding underscores growing concerns about the presence of harmful substances in food packaging and their potential public health impacts. Public health advocates emphasize the need for stricter enforcement of FDA regulations to protect consumers. Read more from Vice News here.
