Pregnant People Face Higher risk of Getting long COVID

Pregnant individuals are at a heightened risk for severe COVID-19, leading to serious pregnancy complications like preterm birth and stillbirth. Recent research from the NIH RECOVER project indicates that nearly 10% of those infected during pregnancy develop long COVID. Common symptoms include fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, and postexertional malaise.

Factors such as obesity, anxiety, depression, and economic hardship increase the likelihood of developing long COVID after infection. This study highlights the urgent need for targeted public health interventions to support pregnant individuals and mitigate the long-term impacts of COVID-19 on maternal and fetal health.
