What’s Your Chance of Catching Monkeypox?

With the help of epidemiologist Bill Jesdale, NPR’s Goats & Soda crunched the numbers using CDC data for monkeypox cases in August, COVID and other threats. How can people get a clear idea of what their chances are of contracting monkeypox? They found 1 in 750 have a chance of catching monkeypox in the U.S. if you are a man who has sex with men last month. The concerns about catching monkeypox come at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is still in force, with over 300,000 cases reported daily across the globe and over 10,000 deaths per week. It's clear when comparing monkeypox to COVID that most people still have a greater risk of being affected by COVID. See the data here.
