Mayo Clinic Laboratories Begins Monkeypox Testing, Second After Labcorp

Mayo Clinic Laboratories began testing for monkeypox on Monday using the CDC’s test kit, which can detect most non-smallpox related orthopoxviruses, including monkeypox. Mayo Labs plans to start by performing up to 10,000 tests per week, with the ability to increase capacity later if needed. Labcorp began testing for monkeypox two weeks ago using the CDC’s orthopoxvirus test, making them the first national laboratory to offer the PCR test. The company is conducting up to 10,000 tests per week from anywhere in the country. Learn more here and see the official press release here.
